The Client’s Requirements
The existing room lacked a clear focal point, and the television felt disconnected from the rest of the space.
The client wanted:
- A large wall-mounted TV as the centrepiece
- A realistic electric fireplace beneath the screen
- Additional display space for decorative items
- Built-in storage to reduce clutter
- A premium, modern finish throughout
Most importantly, they wanted the design to look like it had always been part of the room rather than an afterthought.
Designing the Media Wall
Careful planning was essential to achieve the right proportions. The television and fireplace needed to work together visually, while the surrounding shelving had to create balance without making the wall appear overcrowded.
We opted for a symmetrical layout featuring:
- A central recessed TV section
- Wide electric fire with ember-effect lighting
- Floating display shelves on both sides
- Vertical slatted feature panels
- Integrated LED mood lighting
- Concealed storage cupboards
The combination of dark and light finishes adds depth to the design, creating a subtle contrast that feels modern without being overly bold.
Media Wall Features and Finishing Details
Electric Fireplace Installation
The panoramic electric fireplace provides warmth and atmosphere while serving as a key design feature. Positioned below the television, it creates the classic media wall arrangement that many homeowners are now looking for.
The realistic glowing logs add a cosy feel to the room, especially in the evenings when the ambient lighting is turned down a little.
Integrated Shelving and Storage
The floating shelves provide space for decorative accessories while keeping the design open and uncluttered.
Lower storage cupboards were incorporated to hide cables, accessories and everyday household items. It’s a small detail, but it makes a huge difference to how tidy the room feels on a daily basis.
LED Lighting
Warm LED strip lighting was installed around the ceiling perimeter and within the media wall design. The lighting highlights architectural details and creates a soft glow that enhances the room’s atmosphere.
Sometimes the simplest features have the biggest impact, and this lighting really brings the whole installation together.
The Finished Result
The completed media wall delivers exactly what the homeowners were hoping for. The television, fireplace and shelving work together as one cohesive feature rather than separate elements competing for attention.
Visually, the room feels larger and more refined. The custom-built design maximises wall space while providing storage and display areas that are both practical and attractive.
A nice bonus was how the LED lighting transformed the overall feel of the room during the evening. The photographs look great, but seeing it in person is even better if I’m being honest.
Conclusion
This bespoke media wall project demonstrates how thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship can transform an ordinary living room into a stylish and functional living space. By combining a recessed TV, electric fireplace, integrated shelving and discreet storage, the finished installation provides both visual impact and everyday practicality. The result is a modern feature wall that the homeowners can enjoy for many years to come.
